If you attended a Breast Cancer 3-Day philanthropic walk recently, you might have met Shell Sikkema, a Zazzle member. Shell was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago at age 33. Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, Shell began putting her energies toward raising money and awareness for her cause. She realized that she can be both the medium and the message.
Thinking of ways to raise awareness and money for her cause, Shell turned to Zazzle to help her spread her message.
“I have hundreds of pictures from past events, and I really wanted to do something with those pictures. And I’ve seen other people at events wearing tee shirts that are very personalized. So I was looking for something that would allow me to do something more personalized that would allow me to carry a message,” said Shell.
“I was looking on the Internet and came across Zazzle.com,” continued Shell.” As I started looking through the site, I found I could very easily upload personal pictures and personalize them with all kinds of different fonts.”
One of Shell’s t-shirt designs features pictures of four people when they were going through chemo—pictures of young, bald women. This t-shirt reads “Too young, too many. Fight to find a cure”. Needless to say, Shell thinks this message will be “very touching to a lot of people I’m going to be walking with” in her upcoming 3-day event in her home state of Michigan, and in all the other walks she’ll take part in.
Zazzle is proud to be part of Shell’s fight against breast cancer. Keep up the great work, Shell!
