Racing through the snow, ice and trees is none other than Zazzle Community Giving member Stefanie Michaels. Who is this bonny lass? Well to some, she’s known as Adventure Girl®, to others just Stef, and to those at Zazzle, she’s known as the woman on a mission to raise funds for cancer research through participating in this year’s 35th Anniversary Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Alaska. Also know as her “Idita-Ride for a Cure” Campaign, this effort is in honor of the 4 time Iditarod champ, Susan Butcher, who lost her battle with Leukemia last year. So check out her Zazzle gallery, mushmush, and help to support cancer research and Stef in her incredible feat. The race starts today and ends March 3 – you can even get video updates on her progress at adventuregirl.com.

At Zazzle we’re big on trying to benefit the community at large. And we have lots of contributors and partners that give back in a variety of different ways. Check out the Zazzle Community Giving section and see how you too can help support groups like The Humane Society of the United States, the March of Dimes, Save the Children, The Autism Society of America, and others.

Gee I’m disappointed! Iditarod is torture for those dogs

I know people involved in the sled dog racing and it’s pretty appalling cruelty. The deaths and injuries are bad enough

They overbreed the dogs cause they can only use so many, and the “surplus” often get shot or disposed of in other ugly ways.

This isn’t a nice, happy world.

This isn’t “adventure” b y any stretch and it’s not “incredible feats.”

I thought Zazzle was a little more civilized than that.

Insightful comments, Kelly. I had no idea about this dark side of dog sled racing. I don’t think Zazzle should take the products down, though. It’s important to have all sides represented, and if they weren’t there, I would never have learned about this other side of the Iditarod and dog sled racing. Also, the sale of these products benefits a cause unconnected to dog sled racing… Cancer research! So it’s not that Zazzle is uncivilized. Discussion and debate is, in fact, the very nature of civilization, is it not? And that’s what Zazzle can promote by keeping its doors open to all points of view!

It is called “The Last Great Race on Earth” and I would like to wish Stefanie Michaels the best of luck!

Kelly, why don’t you take a look at the Iditarod website and in particular the Veterinary Center page
