Zazzle Me!

April 30, 2007

Zazzle Me Bad! Check out some awesome Zazzle Mes I’ve seen recently. It’s fun to just watch Pulse and see some of these pics randomly come up, or go on a treasure hunt and find them on products around the community (it’s better than going to a beach with a metal detector). And don’t forget that it is easier than pie to do it yourself. All you need is a camera and a Zazzle product (I haven’t seen many mug Zazzle Mes, that would be sweet).

Here are some of lastest ones I have seen, including litabug‘s entry into the Save the World Contest:

The real question is though, can you find MY Zazzle Me on Zazzle? Prize for whoever finds it first (post a comment if you find it)….

Spoil Mom Crazy this Mother's Day

April 27, 2007

UPDATE: this contest is now closed. Please check the contest center for new contests.

——————-

(For those of you who are new to Zazzle Contests (beta!), make sure you read the About Zazzle Contests section.)

As Mother’s Day approaches, we’re looking for the best designs that say ‘thank you’ to mothers, for all of the wonderful things that they do. We should really be giving thanks year-round (I mean, consider all of the diapers they changed when you were a baby!) but at the very least, we can make this Mother’s Day extra special. The sky is the limit in terms of what product you choose and what type of design you make, the only requirement is that it symbolizes thanks to mom.

Prize:

The winner of the the best design gets to spoil Mom rotten this year… it’s time to make up for all of those hand-drawn stick figures, stardard ol’ cards, and the times when you forgot to get her anything (yeah, we know you did):

  • $1,000.00 USD – COLD HARD CASH: whatever you want to do with it (we suggest giving her a whole weekend at the spa… or a night on the town with limo transportation)
  • Spoil Me Spa Tower: ala 1-800 FLOWERS ($159.99 value)… from chocolate truffles to green tea bath salts, this thing is off the hook!
  • Top-of-the-Line Framed Print: You can go bonkers using our media and framing options to create a family portrait that will last for generations to come. Do whatever you want for options, all the way up to $500. We suggest using a family photo, the Gloss Canvas UV media (it’s archival quality, meaning there’s literally no degradation after 100 years), and framing/matting options galore. Using Zazzle’s tools you can easily create something like the following (the images within the frames are just example placeholders):

mothersday_print1_sz150.jpg mothersday_print2_sz150.jpg mothersday_print3_sz150.jpg
(note: these three products are not eligible for entry in the contest)

How to Enter:

Submission deadline is 11:59 PM (PST) on May 7, 2007.

  1. Create your design and place it on a product (can be any product type … t-shirts, mugs, posters, stamps, you decide!). Make your product.

IMPORTANT: You may only enter one design (on one product) to the contest. You may NOT enter the same design on multiple products and you may NOT enter multiple designs. If you do, only your first entry will be eligible to win. View the contest rules.

How is the winner selected?

  • Once your product is in the Zazzle marketplace, other users will be able to rate it, view it, comment on it and also buy it. My Nemesis by Charlie0

April 27, 2007

Everyone around here knows that I’m not a happy person. I mean, there’s a good reason why I spend most of my time in a cold, unlit room about 75 feet away from everyone else. The last time I smiled, Reagan was in office. Just about everyone in the office gives me my space…except for John, the “Happy Guy” around here. If I were to express our relationship mathematically, it would be as follows:

Charlieo x (-1) = John

The guys is *always* happy. Give him lemons, he makes lemonade…and then he pours you a tall glass and writes a letter to your parents thanking them for making you. In case you don’t believe me, I’ve asked one of my “Agents of Sadness” to keep tabs on John. Here are some recent shots:

Photo 1: Working and smiling at the same time?!?!

Happy Zazzle Employee 1

Photo 2: Not sure if he’s happy or not, but he’s definitely not sad.

Happy Zazzle Employee 2

Photo 3: There is absolutely no reason to be happy at 14:22:05. None!

Happy Zazzle Employee 3

If you see John being happy, please photograph him and respond to this post. In fact, if you know any happy people at all, photograph them and respond to this post. It’s crucial for me to identify (and tag) as many happy people as possible so I know to stay out of their way.

Yours in sadness,

Charlieo

Zazzle Mes of CMBC in Action!

April 26, 2007

Remember the story about CMBC’s Earth Day Campaign? Well they recently sent me some pics of them in action with their freshly made Zazzle postcards. Here is what they had to say about the experience:

19 apr 2007, during ucsd’s earth week, a few of us went to upper campus, joined the earth week activities there and passed out over 250 postcards to UCSD undergraduate and graduate students. a couple businesses in the area were very receptive and supportive of us leaving a small stack of postcards for their patrons.

22 apr 2007, more of us got together, of course in our t-shirts, and handed out over 500 postcards to La Jollans and tourists on the Scripps Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Kellogg Park.

the postcards were a hit and a great success. everyone was very supportive and really enjoyed the graphic and appreciated the information, even just us reminding them that today was earth day.

Beam Me Up!

April 26, 2007

ScottyOne of our avid Zazzle Custom Postage fans, happens to also be a big enthusiast of space travel, chance combination? I think not. Both involve technologies that really produce a “wow” effect for those who witness them. Anyway, he sent us the following story, regarding the recent death of James Doohan (Scotty from the original Star Trek), and a fantastic tribute to his memory:

Zazzle Stamps to be Flown into Space
On April 28, a rocket will be launched from Spaceport America near Upham, New Mexico. The rocket is called SpaceLoft XL and is built by UP Aerospace in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The rocket will fly a suborbital flight profile that will send it into space along with its cargo.

The cargo it carries includes a space module provided by Space Services Inc. of Houston, Texas. And inside the space module are individual capsules that contain a portion of the cremated remains of people who in their lifetime never had a chance to journey to space, but who will finally have the opportunity to now do so, with the respectful wishes of their families. This, called The Legacy Flight, will provide that dream of spaceflight.

One of those individuals aboard the rocket is James Doohan, the actor who portrayed Montgomery Scott ‘Scotty’ in the original Star Trek series. James Doohan passed away on July 20, 2005.

I later learned in the Fall of 2005 that James Doohan would be one of the participants aboard the Legacy Flight. I then began a quest to honor the memory of this fine actor, and to recognize the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the original Star Trek TV series. I decided to create a series of official U.S. postage stamps depicting the images of the Starship Enterprise on them.

After 3 months of emails, phone calls and signing paperwork, I finally was able to receive permission to reproduce the images. Several of these stamps, produced in December of 2005 by Zazzle.com, are now aboard the SpaceLoft XL rocket, soon to journey into space along with ‘Scotty’ and over 200 other individuals – on their ride to the edge of the stars…

One note that should be mentioned… Due to strict copyright restrictions and licensing agreements, these PC Postage stamps were produced on a non-commercial use only basis, and cannot be sold. They will remain as a very special addition to my own portfolio of space related PC Postage.

Zazzle at the Monkey Concert

April 25, 2007

Monkey Sticker So in case your into the Ska scene you might want to check out San Jose’s Monkey, a local SKA band and also a Zazzle contributor! When I heard that they were playing in San Jose, I decided that it would be worth checking out. So a few Zazzlers and I went, armed with the band’s Zazzle stickers (a little gift from Zazzlers) and of course with RobCam (I don’t think I have ever seen Rob without his camera, it is attached to his hip, literally). The opening acts, King Sugar and 880 South, were great warm ups, but the place really started to rock like a hotel on prom night when Monkey came onto to stage.

So, here’s the best part. It turns out the lead singer of Monkey actually works for Zazzle in our San Jose facility… we had no idea beforehand! We all had a good laugh about that while we enjoyed burritos from La Victoria after the show. Watch out for the chipotle sauce, indigestion to the max. See below from shots of the concert, I’m gonna go get a Tums.

Zazzle at APE

April 24, 2007

Last weekend was SF’s Alternative Press Expo, or as the cool kids say “APE.” And when it comes to cool artist events that center around a community, you know that Zazzle has to be there, so we went… and what did we find? Well none other than a gaggle of awesome artists including some Zazzle contributors! Yes, contributors like Akayo1 and Heroicpub were there selling their stuff and just having a good ol’ time hanging out and chatting it up.

It was also interesting to see a lot of new media art. Artists were branching out from substrates like t-shirts and prints, and adding stuff like blank dolls (that they paint upon) and other “found” art objects like cigarette packs (soon to be the next custom product from Zazzle… j/k). All around, it was a great day, and to finish it off we listened to a talk by a legend in graphic novels, Art Spiegelman, the creator of the award winning Maus: A Survivor’s Tale.

Here are some pics from the event:
