Well, no, it’s not exactly Photoshop but it ain’t chopped liver, either. Paint.net is a totally FREE application that boasts many of the same features as Photoshop, such as the pen tool, layers, unlimited undo (oh man, do I use that a lot), red eye removal, embossing, and more. You can read about all the rest of the features at the getpaint.net website.
You want a cherry on top? It’s open source! (You don’t know what that means?!) Essentially that means developers all over the world freely make additions to the application in order to make it better. So the older the application gets, the more powerful and useful it becomes… not bad for something that costs about the same as mom’s hugs (they’re free silly!).
So, I wanted to share this great application because it can really help anybody create work for Zazzle and the rest of the world. I’ve been using it for awhile now and really love it, so check it out.

Paint.Net is designed and tested on Windows. However, it uses the .NET framework and there are projects to port this framework to Linux and the Macintosh. The most prominent of these projects is known as Mono and it may be the case that Paint.Net will work with Mono very soon. Unfortunately, the last time I read about someone trying Paint.Net in Mono, it was reported that the results were not aesthetically pleasing.
If you are brave, you can always try Gimp as a free open-source Photoshop alternative for Mac and Linux.

…and if you want a vector graphics program (something like Illustrator) try Inkscape. Good stuff.
