Start Creating Holiday Hot Gift Products

We expect the following items to be hot gifts this holiday: Cards, mugs, apparel, bags, shoes, pet apparel and skateboards. However, always be true to yourself. If you are a specialist in something else, like business cards, create these. Make sure you offer some designs or templates that are easily turned into gifts.

Get Your Products Featured on Our Landing Pages

When you have a product featured on one of our landing pages, your page traffic goes up exponentially. We would love to feature your products and give you this potential sales boost. We are looking for quality designs on the following product types: Photo cards, Holiday Cards, Christmas Cards, Christmas Gifts, 2010 Calendars, Holiday Invitations, Embroidered Sweatshirts. We scour the site for great designs that fit our most popular search terms and hopefully you’ll soon be featured.

Merchandise your Products with our New Category Sorting Feature

Our new merchandising tool allows you to create categories (formerly called product lines) and display them with personalized icons on your store front. It’s also easy to set the display order of products and categories within your store so your best sellers are seen first. If you haven’t begun using this powerful new feature, now’s the time.

Optimize Your Pricing

Our extensive analysis has shown that the sweet spot for mark-ups is 12-15%. At this price point, your profits will be maximized. Up to 12% your profits go up with little affect on sales. However, above 15%, the increase in profits does not compensate for the typical fall in sales. As always, at Zazzle, you are free to price products anywhere you want, but using our findings as a guide, you’ll maximize your profits.

Market Your Own Products

Successful sellers market their own stores. It’s surprisingly easy, particularly during the holiday season. Start with family and friends. They are all looking for unique gifts and you’ve got them! Email gift ideas and new product designs to your fan list. They’re already fans, so they love it when you come up with something new.

Use Zazzle Products to Showcase Your Talents

Send out your own holiday cards in mid-November using one of your templates and a link to your store so people can buy their own holiday cards. Carry business cards everywhere you go and hand them out when you meet new people. Chubby Cards or Skinny Cards make the unique impression you’re looking for. You can also print rack cards and photo cards showcasing your different designs.

Make an additional 15% on Associate Sales

Here’s a little known secret. Any time you refer someone to our site via an Associate Sales Link, you make an additional 15%, above your normal mark-up. But it gets even better. If that person buys products from other sellers during the same session, you make 15% on all those sales as well. We also have volume bonuses, so this 15% referral fee can go as high as 32%. Promoting Zazzle through an Associate Sales Link can be done on your website or blog or on Facebook, Twitter, Squidoo or any forum you participate in. For more detailed information on the Associate Referral program, click here.

Overuse Tags and Find Yourself at the Bottom of Search

This is our hand-slapping tip. If you’re not guilty of this, ignore it. Some people load up their product pages with tags which have nothing to do with the product itself just to attract Zazzle searches to their page. We consider this SPAM. When someone does a search, we want the results to be relevant. Over-tagging produces non-relevant search results which frustrates the customer and hurts our entire community. If you over-tag products with non-relevant tags, you risk dropping all your products to the bottom of search.

September 28, 2009

Check out the PayPal email below featuring Zazzle’s Director of Product Management Mike T! Unbeknown to us, Mike has a side gig as Chief Model for the Scandinavian Modeling Agency of America (SMAA for short) – this is his main look called light blue steel.

Seriously though, we love PayPal! PayPal is a great way to make purchases on Zazzle, or process Seller earnings quickly (wayyyy faster than a check). Be sure to check out the PayPal X Innovate November 3-4 to learn more about how you can use PayPal as a platform.

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview With Vlad Gerasimov

September 24, 2009

Vlad Gerasimov, aka vladstudio, has been a Zazzler since 2004.  He was kind enough to answer some questions about his artwork, and his time with Zazzle.  Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out his store Vladstudio!

Micro Animals Giraffe Poster

Zazzle: First off, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Vlad: I was born and have always lived in Irkutsk, Russia. It is located near lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world by the way. I received economical education, but never spent a minute working as an economist! I also play piano and guitar.

My typical day may seem not so interesting. I spend most of day at home, sitting with my MacBook Pro (because I am a home-based worker). I reply to e-mails of my website visitors and clients, maintain and improve my website, and of course, I always draw something in Photoshop.

Zazzle: What’s your inspiration for your designs?

Vlad: I am inspired by many very different things, such as beauty of nature, interesting objects and ideas that I stumble upon in Internet or in real life, works of other artists. In the past,  I spent a lot of time making software icons, and therefore my art inherited some of icon design principles – clear lines and details, pseudo-3D.

Zazzle: What has been your favorite design you’ve created, and why?

Vlad: Every artwork is as a child, you know ;-). I think the most special for me are:

• Learning to Fly – http://www.zazzle.com/learning_to_fly_poster-228241061925473627 – don’t know why, but it resonates with me

• Planet Earth – Inversed – http://www.zazzle.com/world_inversed_poster-228598349567979121 – that’s my most popular artwork ever :-)

World Inversed Poster

Zazzle: What is your favorite Zazzle feature? How do you use it?

Vlad: My favorite page on Zazzle website is, of course, “Earnings Summary” :-)

Speaking seriously, I like how buyers of my products can customize them.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Vlad: Variety of available products. The only type of product I am missing is Jigsaw Puzzles! My artworks would be so great as puzzles.

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Vlad: – give your visitors choice. Whenever you create a work of art (or a photo), make as many different products out of it as Zazzle offers. For me, posters, mousepads and t-shirts are best-selling product types;

- integrate Zazzle to your website;

- carefully resize your image for different products (f.e. for a mug and a poster you will need to crop differently, make sure nothing important is lost after cropping).

Thanks Vlad!

This is what happens when you get German translations wrong…

September 22, 2009

Since launching the new www.Zazzle.de website on Friday, we’ve been flooded with overwhelmingly positive comments. However, we’ve received a few comments from some of our German Zazzlers about some spots where we made some small errors in our German translations.
We want you to know that we take all of this feedback very seriously, and we’ve punished the person responsible accordingly.

See below for a picture of Lamson’s ankle. That’s right! We went Kathy Bates on him!

No, just kidding! We love Lamson, and we think his German translation skills are something even David Hasselhoff would be proud of.

He messed up his ankle this weekend pretty bad, though, while out celebrating the launch. Poor guy.

We’d tell you the real truth of how he broke it, but it’s so pathetic we just can’t stand to embarrass Lamson that way. Free Zazzle.de hat for the person that posts to the comments correctly with how Lamson really messed up his ankle. (Trust us, it’s really pathetic.)

Extract the Movie

September 22, 2009

The creator of “Office Space,” “Beavis and Butt-Head,” and “King of the Hill” has returned with another masochistic comedy, “Extract” which opened in theaters on September 4.

Joel, played by Jason Bateman (“Juno,” “Arrested Development”), is one step away from selling his flavor extract factory and retiring to easy street when a freak workplace accident sets in motion a series of disasters that put his business and personal life in jeopardy. The film also stars Kristen Wiig (SNL, “Ghost Town”), Mila Kunis (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), and Ben Affleck (“He’s Just Not That Into You”).

In typical Mike Judge form, the film is brimming with witty one liners, and the creators of the film found it befitting that fans of the film be able to purchase products memorializing their favorite moments.

O’Zapft is!

September 21, 2009

Bleibt einfach dran!

In case your German skills are rusty, the above paragraph says that we have now launched www.Zazzle.de, our German-language site. While we are working on a few more little tweaks over the next few days and weeks, we are already offering the largest selection of designs in the German market. Stay tuned for more exciting things to come to Germany! Prost!

Here is a video of some Zazzlers singing a traditional German drinking song in honor of the launch of Zazzle.de and Oktoberfest!
