Cat, from the Zazzle store CatShops, talks with us about her background in art and her time as a new Zazzler. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out her store CatShops.
Zazzle: Give us a brief bio – where are you from and when did you start making art?
Cat: Hello there and thanks for featuring me! I’m from Canada and I started making art as early as I can remember. I was definitely the quiet kid who could just sit and draw for hours. I have always loved drawing more than anything else and I was always encouraged to keep doing it.
Zazzle: How would you describe your style?
Cat: My background is in graphic design so I think that definitely influences how I draw these days. I love line and shape. Even as a child I remember wanting to draw and not necessarily colour in what I had made. I have a greater appreciation for what colour brings to my pieces now and will often use vibrant colours to create a contrast and give it a more bold feeling.
Zazzle: What’s your favorite medium to use?
Cat: In traditional art, you can’t keep me away from ink. I also love to mix it up with various materials. A close second would be acrylic. Digitally, I love Illustrator and Photoshop together, though when drawing on my iPad, I am a huge fan of SketchBook Pro.
Zazzle: What has been your favorite design you’ve created, and why?
Cat: I really enjoyed making “Wind”. I really got into the flow of the hair and just how simple it turned out. That would definitely be one of my favourites.
Zazzle: We love that you have sort of a suggestion box on your store page. Has anyone submitted something that’s inspired you?
Cat: You know, all it takes is one word to get me to visualize something and I love the input from others. It’s sort of like when a writer gets writer’s block, one word can make the difference and definitely inspire me if I’m going through one of those times. Come visit me at askmetodraw.com and inspire me!
Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?
Cat: For a while I didn’t do as much art as I should have been, it’s something I definitely need to do more of and I’m hoping that this will drive that a little more. If I can bring joy to someone just by doing something I enjoy – that is the best feeling.
Zazzle: Being a newer seller on Zazzle, what are you most looking forward to?
Cat: I love being a part of a community and just sharing, I’m definitely looking forward to that on here.
Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?
Cat: Just be patient and do what you love!
Thanks for sharing with us Cat!
