These t-shirts were the PERFECT “get well soon” gift for my husband and daughter after a close encounter with an 18-wheeler. They’ll be sure to wear them next time they’re on the saddle. I’ll be getting one too, just in case. ;) -Irene

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with skibbyb

June 28, 2012

Kevin, from the Zazzle store skibbyb, discusses how his art is influenced by his upbringing and why he is so enthralled with other cultures. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out his store skibbyb!

Zazzle: Hey Kevin, tell us a little about yourself.

Kevin: I grew up in a US Air Force family, so I had the opportunity to travel a great deal as a child. This is where my love of travel and travel posters comes from. I’ve lived in 8 states and 3 foreign countries. I currently live in Santa Fe, New Mexico but my parents are from New Orleans, Louisiana, so I’m very fond of that great city.

Zazzle: Your pieces are mostly travel designs. Do you travel often? What has been you’re favorite place to visit?

Kevin: I’ve traveled a lot in the past. I don’t travel as much now but I still have the bug and a long list of destinations to visit, especially Kenya. My favorite place to visit has to be Spain. I lived in Seville as a kid, and had to chance to visit again as an adult. I fell in love with Spanish culture at a young age!

Zazzle: What inspires you the most about different regions?

Kevin: I’m inspired mostly by different cultures, architecture and ways of life. It’s amazing to visit a foreign country and see how differently things are done, to be in a place that’s completely different than what you are used to.

Zazzle: How would you describe your artistic style?

Kevin: I would describe my style as retro with a modern flair. I think there is a bit of art deco as well as an architectural quality to my work.

Zazzle: What is your favorite design you’ve created, and why?

Kevin: Hmm…. good question! I have a lot of favorites, but one favorite is the Golden Gate poster (shown below). I like this one because it’s a view of the Golden Gate Bridge not normally seen in posters or postcards. I actually walked onto the bridge to take a photo from this vantage point.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Kevin: It’s the perfect way to get your artwork out to the masses with no overhead. Back in the day, an artist would have to pay to have materials printed. With Zazzle, I can focus on the artwork and not have to worry about a venue to get it in front of an audience.

Zazzle: What is your favorite Zazzle feature? How do you use it?

Kevin: Well, I love to be able to create a custom piece for someone and be able to upload and print only one or two. I also like the quick create feature.

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Kevin: I would say to find a niche. Have a focus to your work. And be patient! It takes time to generate a following and a presence on the web and you have to continually work at it.

Zazzle: What was the very first thing you made on Zazzle?

Kevin: I think it was probably my Matterhorn poster.

Thanks for sharing Kevin!

I was searching for a gift for my brother for his birthday. I went online and searched for things that said “awesome brother”. I found the shirts on Zazzle, and as soon as I saw the one that said “World’s Awesomest Brother” I knew I wanted it for him. After clicking to look at the shirt, I realized you could add a photo. I knew instantly which photo to pick. Our youngest brother passed away just a month ago. So I chose the best photo I had of the three of us. I ordered it with regular shipping, so it arrived exactly on his birthday! I was so excited. He loves it, and I’m so glad there are sites like Zazzle to put pictures on things… it’s a wonderful way to remember people. -Megan

On January 30, 2012 I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. My legs and face were paralyzed. My recovery has been life changing. I am grateful to be doing so well. I am here to promote awareness. If you don’t know what GBS is PLEASE google it… :) -Jen

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with angelszafranko

June 21, 2012

Angel, ARTSPROJEKT artist from the Zazzle store angelszafranko, talks with us about her love of all things cute and gives great advice on engaging customers. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out her store angelszafranko!

Zazzle: Firstly, tell us about yourself.

Angel: My name is Angel and I’m a 20-something year old living in Toronto. I currently work from home as a freelance animator. It’s pretty fun.

Zazzle: Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Angel: This is a hard question to answer. I find inspiration from everything! I can be watching a cartoon (sailor moon, adventure time, etc.), I could be looking through an old children’s book, I could be walking my dog, or I could be eating (‘cause cupcakes look so cute, you know?). I will admit that a lot has to do with fashion. I follow a lot of fashion-y blogs and I get inspired all the time by the very bright and colourful vintage and thrifted clothing the bloggers wear. Basically anything cute, colourful, and/or a little bit weird always gets my attention.

Zazzle: How would you describe your style?

Angel: Hmm, I think colourful, fun and cute! I like creating things that are fun to look at. Things that I would want to hang on my walls.

Zazzle:  What’s your favorite medium to use?

Angel: I usually just sketch my work in my sketchbook, scan it and then finish it up in Photoshop. Some of my work is done using paints, usually gouache but I am starting to get into acrylics too.

Zazzle: Where’s your favorite space to create?

Angel: At home! Usually I’ll be sketching on the couch while an episode or a movie I’ve already seen plays (sometimes I’ll use it as inspiration). Then I’ll go into my little work area and get it all digitalized.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Angel: The fact that my one design can be on so many different kinds of products amazes me. And I think that’s why people like Zazzle so much. You’re not just getting a t-shirt in one style and colour…you can get so much more!

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Angel: Use the tags properly. Organize your store. Get active in the forums. Let your fans/followers know about any promotions or codes. Promote your artwork/designs, but don’t shove it down people’s throats. Carry a business card with you and tell your friends because word of mouth travels fast. Keep at it. The more work you put into it the more you’ll get back.

Zazzle: Who is your favorite Zazzle seller (besides yourself, of course)?

Angel: I’ve always been a big fan of Camilla d’Errico. I love her style.

Zazzle: Can you give us a sneak peek of future designs?

Angel: Not too long ago I started a little something….

Thanks for sharing Angel!

Who Will Win Game 5 Between Oklahoma City and Miami?

June 21, 2012

A lot of people are talking about whether the Oklahoma City Thunder will be able to come back from Miami Heat’s 3-1 lead in the NBA finals.  But how can you not root for the underdog, especially when the Thunder have come back before, and in an even bigger way against the Spurs who were up 2-0 and had won 20 games in a row.

We’ve been covering the 2012 Playoffs from week to week, making sure that we collect all the best game images for the poster collection in the NBA Shop.  Miami stood out from the beginning as a serious contender, so we’re not surprised they made it all this way, but Oklahoma City who had made a habit of falling behind in earlier series’ totally snuck up on us.

We are super excited to see what unfolds Thursday night.  Will the Thunder steal a win and bring Miami back to Oklahoma?  Stay tuned and check back into the NBA shop for posters of past and upcoming highlights that commemorate the games.

Which team do you think will win the 2012 NBA Finals?

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - JUNE 14: LeBron James #6 of 4
