This past Saturday, June 9th, Carnegie Melon University, Silicon Valley celebrated their 10 year anniversary. The president of CMU, founders of the Silicon Valley campus, faculty, students, alumni and prestigious heads of companies like Apple, Nokia, and Samsung were present (along with 450 other people) to celebrate this momentous occasion. “CMU Silicon Valley has come a long way in the past ten years, the people here, this milestone, and the technology we are producing shows we are in the right place and that the university is harnessing and growing innovation,” Martin Griss, Associate Dean and Director of CMU Silicon Valley said glowingly. Part of the event included a time capsule which included proud elements from the past ten years: projects, devices, software, certificates and even a Zazzle ornament! The ornament was designed from photographs of Dr. Griss’s metal sculptures placed on campus. The staff and students decorate these sculptures for holidays and big events. It was truly awesome to see how someone’s creativity can be rendered on a Zazzle product and moralized in a time capsule. Dr. Griss continued, “As a creative person myself, I enjoy having a place I can go that can help me express my creativity and artwork. The Beast is a sculpture I donated to Carnegie Mellon’s Silicon Valley campus, and it’s taken on a life of its own, becoming a mascot of the campus. Being able to use Zazzle to share The Beast in creative ways, like using the pendant, and holiday cards has been great. Zazzle’s other products like the belt buckles, ties, and hats, have all been high quality and contributed to the culture of our campus!”
Dr. Griss loves Zazzle so much he even wore a belt buckle and tie adorned with the official 10 year anniversary logo, and presented a Zazzle espresso cup to his boss. “Many guests stated that they use Zazzle often after seeing my tie and belt buckle,” raved Dr. Griss. “The president of CMU himself signed my tie, and asked me to make him one for himself!”

The time capsule with the Zazzle ornament will be opened on CMU Silicon Valley’s 25th anniversary. Where will Zazzle be then? What products will Zazzle offer in 2027?
