Zazzle Partner Rickshaw Bagworks Wins Small Business Big Impact Philanthropic Award

July 31, 2012

Congrats to Rickshaw Bagworks and Mark Dwight (Zazzle Platform Partner on the Zero Custom Messenger Bag), for winning the first ever Small Business Big Impact Award presented by San Francisco Business Times! Before we partnered with Rickshaw, we knew there was something special in the water over there. From free office space for start-ups at their HQ to a CEO that rides 500+ miles for charity they had a commitment to creating great products and helping people that was a part of everything they did and every product they made. Much like the story of American MoJo (another Zazzle Platform Partner), we at Zazzle are proud to be a part of the story and help drive these manufacturers toward their missions of social good. Congrats again Rickshaw Bagworks!

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with mzobcn

July 26, 2012

Marcel, from the Zazzle store mzobcn, talks with us about his hopes of fame and his dream world of color. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out his store mzobcn!

Zazzle: Firstly, when and how did you first become interested in art? How long have you been making art?

Marcel: I grew up next to a tattoo studio and traced the designs as a child. At age 12, I began to design my own designs. Get ready for me.  Ed Hardy’s was yesterday’s news! I was born to paint and 2012 is the year of chance! MZO-BCN stands for MAZO from Barcelona.

Zazzle: How would you describe your style?

Marcel: Graffiti, tattoo , old school, and not conventional.

Zazzle: When you’re not designing, what do you do for fun?

Marcel: Family, friends, good food, long sleep, and parties.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Marcel: Zazzle is one of the best sites on the net with a lot of products that work with street art designs very well. People from all over the world can design their own products. Unfortunately, they only print in the US, which unfortunately creates high delivery costs in Switzerland. I hope that Zazzle prints in Europe soon!

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Marcel: Stay true to your style and try to create recognizable features in all your designs. Have patience. Take time each day to develop your own style.

Zazzle: Do you have any fun stories about being a seller on Zazzle?

Marcel: No, not yet. Lots of people have visited my shop, but only 2 people have purchased a product. But all beginnings are hard, so thanks to everyone for visiting my shop!

Zazzle: And lastly, on a very serious note, if you could be a superhero, what would be your super power?

Marcel: The whole world is painted by telepathy. I could live paint with my mind. I could make every day a new, positive world of color. I’d create MAZO planet!

Zazzle: How creative! Thanks for sharing Marcel!

New Custom iPad Cases and Custom Kindle Cases

July 24, 2012

The summer heat must be getting to me – I forgot to tell everyone about the new custom iPad cases and custom Kindle cases on Zazzle! In partnership with caseable, these cases are made of recycled materials in Brooklyn and feature a super-soft suede interior and vibrantly printed exterior. Below is a video that shows off the iPad case from the launch of these products on the caseable site (before they joined the Zazzle platform).

FYI – the rubber strip is for turning the case into a stand when you flip it open…

Like many of our product partners, caseable wanted to EXPLODE their product offering and joined the Zazzle platform to supplement their existing custom offering. I’d say it has worked with close to 50,000 different designs for the Kindle and iPad thanks to our hardworking Zazzle Sellers. Some of my favorites are below!

Zazzle Team Celebrates the International Games with Awesome Food

July 23, 2012

The start of the Olympics brings out the competitive side in many of us and Zazzle Team is no different. There’s been a bit of “flag waving” around the office and instead of having Greco-Roman wrestling matches to decide victors (HR said no…) we did the next best thing – an international food competition! Zazzle Team members brought in their favorite of favorite dishes to be judged by the staff and ultimately voted the “gold” dish. The winning dish was Mustafa’s “Maklooba.” Here’s a brief description his delectable creation:

The Winner

Maklooba in Arabic means “upside-down” and it’s referring to how the dish is served. The whole pot is flipped upside-down on a tray to make it more presentable. The main ingredients are rice cooked half way in tomato sauce, chicken, peas, potatoes, eggplants, bell pepper, onions and tomatoes. All the vegetables sliced, fried half way, stacked at the bottom of the pot in layers followed by a layer of chicken and finally topped with the half cooked rice. The whole pot left to simmer in chicken stock and some extra virgin olive oil.

Photos from the Day

Congrats Mustafa! What’s your favorite food? Share in the comments!

Zazzle Featured Seller Interview with red_dress

July 19, 2012

Rosa, from the Zazzle store red_dress, talks with us about her appreciation for customization and her work ethic as a designer. Check out the interview below and don’t forget to check out her store red_dress!

Zazzle: Give us a brief bio. What made you interested in art and when did you start designing?

Rosa: Hello! My name is Rosa and I’m Portuguese. Having a degree in Portuguese Studies, I’m interested in the historical side of art. As a hobby, I started creating graphics, a few years ago, when I discovered the world of blogs and webpages. Creating new templates were so much fun.

Zazzle: What inspires you?

Rosa: I get inspired by looking at pretty things. The Zazzle marketplace is a good source of inspiration. From ARTSPROJEKT iPhone cases to cute paper goods, there’s always something that inspires me to be creative.

Zazzle: How do you begin your creative process?

Rosa: I often begin with a cup of coffee, a subject in mind, and nice sample photos. I try my best to always include a customizable element to designs.

Zazzle: Where’s your favorite space to design?

Rosa: My office, where I have a big desk and sunlight. There’s usually a cat peeking behind my laptop screen or playing with my yarn stash.

Zazzle: What’s your favorite design you’ve created, and why?

Rosa: Probably this simple Love square key chain, with custom photo and cut out text. I like the message “Love is all you need” and the black and white picture really makes the blue design pop.

Zazzle: What got you interested in selling your art on Zazzle?

Rosa: After checking Zazzle was an established and honest company, I really was impressed by the wide range of quality custom products offered and how easily a Father’s Day greeting card turns into a fun birthday card.

Zazzle: How many hours do you typically spend working on your Zazzle store?

Rosa: I live at my Zazzle store; when life calls, I go out.

Zazzle: What tips can you give someone who is just starting out on Zazzle?

Rosa: Read the forums, learn about templates and then follow these steps:

  1. Design with a theme in mind (a transparent grid will help you to align your text);
  2. Pay attention to titles, descriptions and tags;
  3. Repeat #1 and #2.

When you are feeling “meh”, promote products and read reviews. There’s usually something to learn from what our wonderful costumers have to say.

Zazzle: Can you give us a sneak peek of future designs?

Rosa: I’ll be adding more colorful and fun designs to my store soon.

Thanks for sharing Rosa!
