President Obama was in Seattle yesterday, and evidently a couple of F-15′s from the Oregon Air National Guard buzzed the city at supersonic speed, causing two sonic booms.  Just like Maverick buzzing the tower.

The clever folks at Nology Media in Seattle decided to have some fun with the situation, and created a line of Obooma t-shirts in their store.  The proceeds are going to the Moyer Foundation charity!

Good stuff!

Zazzle Down Under!

July 12, 2010

Last week was the 2nd annual Online Retailer Conference and Expo in beautiful Sydney, Australia!  Once again, Zazzle was there to soak it all in!  Jason Kang, our VP of Marketing, delivered a featured presentation titled “How Zazzle Supercharged its Search Marketing for the Holiday Season.”  And I (hi, I’m Mike) sat in as part of a panel discussion on Social Media.

The conference was a huge success.  The Australian ecommerce market is growing like crazy, and the energy and enthusiasm amongst all of the e-retailers there was exciting!  It was great to meet and speak with so many entrepreneurial types.

While we were in Sydney, we also met up with two of our Aussie ProSellers.  Simon, the creative inspiration behind, and Yiying, creator of the little gem found here, joined us for dinner and good times ensued!

It was a great trip, and we were proud and happy to be invited down.  In just two short years, the Online Retailer Conference and Expo has become one of the foremost gathering points for online retailers seeking to learn, discover, and grow their e-business in Australia, as well as in the rest of the increasingly interconnected global e-commerce world!

Some pics are below!

It’s been raining cats and dogs in the San Francisco area, and Zazzle’s campus in Redwood City has a brand new lake (see above). And in this Lake Zazzle lives a monster by the name of Greg.

Truth is, we dared Greg to go for a swim in the new lake. He took our dare, along with $500 we collected, and went for a refreshing swim in nothing but his skivvies. Honestly, Greg was the only one who won in the end.

Here’s some video of the shenanigans. It is perhaps NSFW. Or any setting for that matter. But we don’t care. It’s Wednesday at Zazzle!

We love you Greg!

Smokey and the Bandit!

January 7, 2010

The holiday season is usually a crazy time at Zazzle, and this year was no exception! To get into the spirit of things, Patrick, our very own ZazzleManiac, grows a special holiday beard from Halloween until Christmas. Sort of like a rally cap in baseball, but scratchier. And uglier. Seriously, it’s gross. But we love Patrick, and we tolerate the beard, because it seems to make him happy.
Here’s a picture of the holiday beard in all of its bushy glory:

This year, though, we got a special surprise after the New Year when Patrick decided to chip away at his beard.
He spent a couple of days as Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood. “I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! I DRINK IT UP!!!”

And a couple of days as a mustachioed Travis Bickler from Taxi Driver. “You talkin’ to me?”

But the real joy came when Patrick decided to channel Burt Reynolds from Smokey and the Bandit. Pure sex!
By the way, that’s Pete’s Mercedes CLS55 AMG with the Pontiac Trans Am hood decal. Awesome, yes?

Which version of Patrick do you prefer?

Visit to Zazzle Headquarters by All Things D!

December 25, 2009

A couple of weeks ago, Kara Swisher, author of the popular Silicon Valley tech blog “BoomTown” on the website, paid a visit to the Zazzle headquarters to speak with Bobby and Jeff about all things Zazzle.

The blog post and video were published a couple of days ago.  Check it out at, and feel free to leave a comment on that page about how good looking Bobby and Jeff are!

Zazzle — The Next Step in Evolution?

November 24, 2009

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the publishing of Darwin’s Origin of the Species.

We think that Zazzle, with its community-driven marketplace of billions of customizable products, represents a major evolutionary step in the advancement of human creativity and interaction. That concept is a bit complicated for a Tuesday afternoon, though.

So instead, here’s Zazzle seller NeoZAZ‘s take on the theory of evolution.

Statement on Psalm 109 Products

November 18, 2009

Dear Zazzle Member or Concerned Citizen—

Today, there has surfaced a great deal of discussion and debate over certain products in the Zazzle Marketplace which reference text from Psalm 109 in combination with reference to President Barack Obama.  We at Zazzle are aware of the issue, and would like to take this opportunity to respond in a unified and public fashion to all parties and viewpoints.

Zazzle puts great value on its Marketplace as a forum for discussion and debate of the issues of our day.  We are proud of the fact that no matter how arcane or apparently esoteric a subject may be, there can often be found Zazzle products pertaining to it.  We are particularly sensitive to Zazzle as an open forum for the expression and debate of political viewpoints.  The rigorous debate and discussion of political issues, including candidates for political office, our elected leaders, and pending and actual legislation, is something that drives the very democracy that in turn allows for our freedom as citizens to make these expressions in the first place.

With that in mind, it is only after great thought that we have determined that these products, in the context of the full text of Psalm 109, may be interpreted in such a way as to suggest physical harm to the President of the United States.  In deference to the Office of the President of the United States, and in accordance with federal law prohibiting the making of threats against the physical wellbeing of the President of the United States, Zazzle has therefore determined that these products are in violation of the Zazzle User Agreement and not appropriate for inclusion in the Zazzle Marketplace.  We have begun efforts to remove them from our website, and we will be vigilant to the publication of similar products moving forward.

Zazzle will continue to allow and encourage the submission of products that express disapproval or approval of the President’s policies and actions, but Zazzle will not permit products that may be interpreted to suggest violence toward the President.

Thank You Veterans

November 11, 2009

To all veterans

Thank you! Thank you for serving your country. Thank you for doing a job that in peace time is often ignored and during war time is often controversial. Thank you for dealing with the hardship that the job puts on you and your family. Thank you for caring enough to offer up the ultimate sacrifice.

To veterans’ families:

Thank you for what you do; supporting your veteran. Thank you for dealing with the stress of having a loved one away from home, sometimes for years. Thank you for the sleepless nights you go through during rough times. Thank you for being single parents, while your serviceperson is away. Thank you for being there when your loved one comes home and for the way you pick up the pieces, if they do not.

To everybody else:

Call a veteran today and thank her or him. If you know the family of a veteran, thank them. Far too often, as we watch the politicos debate the value of one war or another, we forget that there is a man or woman sitting in a foreign country, away from his or her family, doing a sometimes thankless job.

Today, thank a veteran.

New Custom Binders from Zazzle and Avery

October 2, 2009

Zazzle Sellers…Design Tool…Avery Binders… When these powers combine, they form an all-powerful source for good. We call it custom binders! It’s kinda like Voltron, in case you remember that awesome cartoon.

Thanks to a partnership with Avery Dennison, we’re pleased to announce that custom binders are the latest offering to join the Zazzle product family. Now you can upload designs, photos, and text to binders to create an amazing school binder, recipe binder, wedding binder, baby binder or anything else you can think of (WHO’S GONNA CREATE THE FIRST BANANA BINDER?!). The entire team at Zazzle is excited about this partnership, and we’re already looking forward to adding even more new products through our relationship with Avery. Jeff (Zazzle Co-Founder) said, “Working with a branded partner such as Avery enables us to extend our product offering by leveraging their expertise in manufacturing office products and supplies. Our network of buyers and content partners continues to grow beyond expectations, and expanding our product breadth in exciting new categories like binders is accelerating this momentum.” Cool!

Be sure to look at some of the great new binders in the marketplace and remember… create custom binders, and in the words of Keith, “Let’s go, Voltron Force!”

This is what happens when you get German translations wrong…

September 22, 2009

Since launching the new website on Friday, we’ve been flooded with overwhelmingly positive comments. However, we’ve received a few comments from some of our German Zazzlers about some spots where we made some small errors in our German translations.
We want you to know that we take all of this feedback very seriously, and we’ve punished the person responsible accordingly.

See below for a picture of Lamson’s ankle. That’s right! We went Kathy Bates on him!

No, just kidding! We love Lamson, and we think his German translation skills are something even David Hasselhoff would be proud of.

He messed up his ankle this weekend pretty bad, though, while out celebrating the launch. Poor guy.

We’d tell you the real truth of how he broke it, but it’s so pathetic we just can’t stand to embarrass Lamson that way. Free hat for the person that posts to the comments correctly with how Lamson really messed up his ankle. (Trust us, it’s really pathetic.)
