DIY Baby Shower Series: Flyer Candy Bar Wrappers

May 19, 2013

Unknown

In our second DIY Baby Shower Series, we’ll cover how to add an extra touch to a baby shower favor by making a personalized wrapped candy bar wrapper.

Everyone loves chocolate, so send your guests off with something that’s thoughtful and extra sweet.

Unknown-1

Supplies:

  1. Baby shower candy flyers
  2. Scissors
  3. Double-sided tape
  4. 1.55 oz candy bars

When choosing your design, feel free to play around with the text in the nutritional facts. Add personality and humor to the favor, while tying the theme to your shower.

Unknown-2

Step 1: Purchase your flyer with your personalized text and image. Note flyers come in a pack of 25, so you’ll need to adjust the amount to your party size.

Step 2: Cut along the lines of the wrapper until you have the amount you’ll need for all of your guests.

Step 3: Center the main image of your flyer to the top of the candy bar. Once centered, flip the candy bar over and fold the small side of the flyer to the back, making a crease. Then, take about an inch of double-sided tape and apply to the back of the wrapper.

Step 4: Fold the longer side over and press to seal. You’re done!

DIY Baby Shower Series: Scratcher Postcards

May 12, 2013

For this DIY Series, we’ll teach you how to use products from our site to add the perfect, personalized touch to a baby shower.

First, scratcher postcards for a “gender reveal” baby shower.

 Unknown

Is it a boy or a girl? Turn an ordinary baby shower into an occasion to announce your baby’s gender with family and friends.

Gather everyone and have them participate in an interactive game, where they’ll have to scratch a card to find the answer.

Unknown-1

Supplies:

1. Gender reveal postcard (this is a template product, so feel free to include the messaging inside the balloons).

2. Silver acrylic paint

3. Dish soap

4. A plate

5. A paintbrush

6. A coin

Unknown-2

Step 1: Personalize the scratcher postcard with the correct gender.

Step 2: Pour three parts acrylic paint and one part dish soap on a plate.

Step 3: Mix the paint and dish soap together.

Step 4: Paint inside the balloons to cover the answer, using 2-3 coats of paint. Let the paint dry between coats and repeat until you can no longer see the text.

Step 5: Let dry. (It might take up to an hour to dry).

You’re done!

Provide the finished scratcher postcards to your guests and hand them coins. Have them guess the gender and scratch to see the answer! Whomever gets it right can get a special treat.

Seller Spotlight: Kate Tapley

January 10, 2013

Designer Kate Tapley has always been a doodler. From an early age, her father (an artist) encouraged her to draw and be creative. One day, she was perusing some greeting cards in the store when she decided that they were just…”a little too saccharine.” She started making her own cards for her friends with her signature doodles, and they were a hit. Kate took some time to talk about her epic doodles, Ninja Princess and the popularity behind Vladamir.

All of my friends love my doodles, so much so that they encouraged me to put them on products. I’m so glad I found Zazzle – it’s so user-friendly and I love all my options.

I started with just a couple of simple things on cards — just to see if anyone was interested. My humor is a little random and a bit irreverent. One of my first hits was my “Pregnant at Christmas” ornament, which has sold very well during the holidays (including this past season). A baby’s first Christmas is great, but what about all of the pregnant moms? I’ve been pregnant at Christmas and no one ever gives you ornaments for it. Being able to eat anything you want without guilt deserves some commemoration.

When I’m dreaming up designs, usually the captions and art come into my head at the same time. For Vladamir, the design came first. I was over saccharine birthday cards and a friend requested something a little different. Vladamir is a dog smoking a Russian cigar, wearing a hat. It’s very popular — a lot of people love random weirdness and it makes them happy.

There’s a bit of a story behind this next card. One of my good friends was diagnosed with cancer right after she turned 30. While most of us were stammering, another girlfriend just said flatly: “Well, this sucks.” And it was exactly the right thing to say. Because it did suck and sometimes people don’t need to hear words of encouragement — they just need to know that they’re not alone in hating their situation.
