Happy Birthday, Eiffel Tower!

March 31, 2013

On this day in 1889, the city of Paris honored the centenary of the French Revolution by officially opening the Eiffel Tower. At 984 feet tall, it was the world’s tallest human-made structure (and stayed that way until the Chrysler Building was finished in 1930).

It’s hard to believe now, but in 1889, critics saw the tower as an eyesore or as structurally unsound. If they could only see it now – it’s one of the world’s most popular attractions, with almost 20,000 visitors every day!

It’s also one of the most photographed landmarks in the world, and for all those francophiles out there, we have a ton of options for carrying this architectural treasure with you.

Use our Basking Stationery Paper to send love notes, letters and more with a photo that encapsulates the tranquil bliss that Paris inspires:

Capture the mystery and intrigue of misty Paris days with a poster of H. Armstrong Roberts’ print “Silhouetted woman, Paris,” overlooking the Eiffel Tower from the iconic Trocadéro plaza:

And go vintage with an iPhone case that says old-fashioned carnival! The Vintage Paris Postcard option shows off the Eiffel Tower during its inaugural Universal Exposition days:

Until you’re able to visit Paris and see, climb and take photos of the Eiffel Tower in-person, take a bit of it around with you and give a little lift to the everyday.
