Seller Spotlight: ThePaperMill

Sandy (ThePaperMill on Zazzle) lives on a beautiful island off the coast of Washington state. After spending years snapping pictures of the scenery, she came across Zazzle and decided to brush up on her photoshop skills. She decided to turn her love of photography and weddings into a successful venture on Zazzle.

I spent many years in risk management and insurance, and decided it was time to try out Zazzle.

I’ve found my niche with rustic themes, the outdoors and weddings. I spend a lot of time researching wedding trends, thinking how I can best create save-the-dates, invites, etc. I know how important this day is for the bride, and it’s an honor designing something that will be significant on such a special day.

Here are some of my favorites:

Rustic Wedding Save the Date Swallows and Fence Square Stickers

I try to incorporate my passion for living here into my design work. Rustic fences and tree silhouettes dot the landscape of our island everywhere you go. All of my designs are created in photoshop — allowing me to incorporate layer after layer to bring the viewer into the design.

Mixing textures like the burlap background with a minimalist design keeps this invite contemporary (but it still maintains that rustic feel).

I love to evoke memories from childhood when creating designs, and I love the fact that today’s bride feels comfortable enough to add her unique interpretation to the day.

I try to keep up with all of Zazzle’s great product offerings and try to dedicate time to creating different products. Sometimes we need to be aware of what sells in our overall marketing scheme and head in other directions to encompass other markets.

I love the idea of using candy buffets and wedding dessert bars. I try to make brides’ planning easier, while also sticking to my goal of incorporating the beauty in our everyday lives.

Wedding Trends: Wedding Color Schemes For 2013

January 28, 2013

TDSWhite (the dynamic duo of Matthew and Trevor) did such a knockout job giving us an inside look into how they design for weddings that we asked them to flesh out their predictions and play trendspotter for all things weddings 2013. First up: wedding color schemes for 2013.

The time of year your wedding will take place and the geographic location of your wedding will influence what’s hot this year in wedding colors. The bad news is that you can’t have them all (unless you choose a rainbow wedding theme), but the good news is that there are so many beautiful color options from which to choose.

Many wedding color names this year sound good enough to eat! Popular shades of green that are in this year and that also share their monikers with foods include lime, spearmint and a darker shade of mint. Other in-demand hues that bring to mind edible delights are: chocolate, lemon, tangerine, mocha, strawberry, blueberry and cranberry. Behind these tasty color names are varying gradations from light and bright to heavy and dark of the basic, classic colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and brown.

PANTONE released their spring colors at the end of 2012 and declared emerald as the color of the year for 2013. Designers all over the world wait for the release of PANTONE’s color report in order to incorporate specific colors and complementary color combinations into the worlds of fashion, interior design and graphic design. In turn, all of these areas have an impact on what is hot in wedding colors schemes for the year. Since Emerald is the official color of the year, you can expect to see fifty shades of green in 2013 used as an accent color or a dominating wedding color.

What does all of this mean for the bride who is in the midst of choosing her wedding colors during the wedding planning stages?

On the lighter side of the color chart for spring to early fall, we will see the use of bright neon colors, which is one of many color trends this year. (One note of caution is that neon should be used sparingly in designs unless a bride is planning on a traditional Las Vegas destination wedding. In that case, there is no such thing as too much neon!) For most brides-to-be, a small pop of neon against an overall white or pale colored background will work perfectly.

Here’s an idea for wedding save the dates, wedding invitations and RSVP’s. The bride and groom’s names can be highlighted in neon colors while the rest of the wedding wording should be low key but complimentary, giving the entire wedding stationery ensemble a trendy and stylish designer touch.

On the darker side of the color chart for fall and winter weddings, we will see many nature-inspired earth tones. They will be deep, rich, and fully saturated as opposed to their lighter spring counterparts. Mother Nature’s palette – autumn’s fiery reds, deep bold oranges, and forest browns as well as winter’s blues and snow whites – will surely inspire wedding designers.

What will some popular color choices be for matching and complementary wedding colors? Everybody knows that black and white go together, but color matching goes quite beyond the basics these days. Some notable color coordinating trends for 2013 will be the use of light green or mint green either used alone or paired with salmon (pink), chocolate or mocha (brown), tangerine (orange), dusk or powder blue (light blue).

Seller Spotlight: AudreyJeanne

December 6, 2012

One of Zazzle’s biggest fans is AudreyJeanne, artist extraordinaire with a background in watercolor, graphic design, amalgamated art, calligraphy and more. She paid a visit to our Z headquarters recently and we chatted with her about her background in art, what she loves to design and why she loves Zazzle with a passion.

I wish Zazzle existed back in the day, when my kids were little. I’m a professional artist — I’ve done it all and seen the art world change. As a licensed artist, I can tell you firsthand that it used to be that you could have thousands of images and art that are market worthy, but most wouldn’t see the light of day. It is almost impossible to get your art out there unless you have a great agent or go through the tedious work of doing art show circuits and hope that one or two collections will be picked by a store or a manufacturer. I’m blessed with the best of both worlds, a great agency, MHS Licensing, and a place to test and prove my designs prior to offering them for licensing.

As a licensed artist, you have to be aware of trends, yet you still have to have your own unique vision. There’s tremendous pressure. The joy of Zazzle is that I can get to do what I love and not be a slave to whims or an art trend. I don’t have to bang on doors. I don’t have to have one niche (though I do love elegant, vintage and feminine) and I can let the different sides of me show. I can stay at home, do what I love and be who I am. Zazzle gives me a place where I can take my art and say, “Where can I put this?” To me, that’s amazing. Zazzle is a phenomenal outlet for artistic expression and I encourage all artists out there to give it a try.

My personal style is varied — I love elegant, sophisticated and modern, and tend towards traditional with a touch of edge. I love the invites on Zazzle and love designing for weddings. It’s really a two-way street with customers — you have to be open to feedback. I try to create invites that fit their individual style, as well as color pallette. What’s so fun about Zazzle is that I’m able to have many stores with varying styles, some that you’d never expect from me. I have the freedom and support to create!

Seller Spotlight: TDSWhite

November 8, 2012

Matthew and Trevor are the dynamic duo behind one of Zazzle’s most popular stores, TDSWhite. Specializing in awesome holiday products and all things classic weddings, they’ve been selling their creations on Zazzle since its early days. Trevor has a background in photography and design, and Matthew has the writing chops, which is put to good use copywriting descriptions for their products.

If we had to describe our style, we’d say it’s timeless, classic and long-lasting. When we’re focusing on designing Zazzle custom postage or wedding products, we’ll make sure to include a beautiful white gown, flowers that don’t go out of fashion (like roses) or popular colors for the season.

We’re especially proud of our Zazzle custom postage for the holidays, which incorporate winter scenes and snowflake patterns. They’re a hit with customers. As for weddings, our background in floral photography helped us design successful products. We started out with Zazzle custom postage, and as more products were added, like invitations or towels, we adapted our designs to fit the products.

One of our biggest pieces of advice when designing for weddings is to pay close attention to color in your products. We try to keep our designs timeless, but we also pay attention to popular colors for each season. The color selection for wedding products in the fall and winter is different than spring and summer. There’s more earth tones, bright oranges and reds. As you go into winter, cool colors like blues, greys, bright red and white are popular all the way through the holiday season.

As if creating and designing on Zazzle isn’t enough to keep Matthew and Trevor busy, Matthew is also a screenwriter & novelist. Trevor designs all of his book covers. Check out their work at Matthew’s website: http://www.MatthewGrantOnline.com
