Yesterday we announced all of the talented winning Designers for our “Baby It’s Cold Outside” design challenge. Today, we’re chatting with our Gold winner, MaggieMart, for a special interview to learn more about her and her winning designs.
Tell us a little about you! Where do you live/where are you from? Any fun facts about you or special interests you’d like to share?
I was born and raised in New York and now live with my husband and three children on beautiful Long Island. We love to spend time on the beaches here on the north shore, while also visiting New York City. We spend a lot of our vacations upstate in the gorgeous mountains and lakes of the Adirondacks.
What is your background in art or design?
My formal education is in the field of Mathematics so all of my graphic design skills are self taught. Back when photoshop was in its infancy, I would create designs for party favors and photo cards for our friends and family. I haven’t stopped since.
How did you get started with Zazzle?
I began using Zazzle when I wanted to create personalized T-Shirts for an event I was attending. From there I discovered all of the products that Zazzle had to offer and immediately began designing notecards with some of my photography. After my first sale, I was hooked!
What are your favorite Zazzle products to design?
My favorite changes all the time! I do like designing the cheeseboards and wood wall canvases, and I did have fun making a few tree skirts. The pillows are a favorite of mine and are a beautiful addition to my home office. The wood iPhone cases are in my top five as well.
Congratulations on winning the contest! How did you come up with the inspiration for the designs used in your collection? How do you see the products in your collection being used to cozy up a customer’s home?
Thank you! This collection was strictly inspired by my love of the Adirondack Mountains.
I imagined a chair by a fireplace, and on that chair was my pillow and blanket. On the wood table beside the chair I envisioned my mug full of hot cocoa, resting on my coaster. There would be some cheese and crackers on the cutting board, and on the wall above the chair would hang the wood canvas wolf; reminding us that it’s safe and cozy inside the cabin!
Anything else you’d like to share about your store, products, or experience with Zazzle?
My Zazzle store, MaggieMart, has allowed me to stay home with my three children while earning an income that I could be proud of. I’ve built my store brick by brick and love it more than any other job I have ever had. With the millions of fantastic products and the thousands of talented artists here at Zazzle, I am extremely grateful for the recognition I am receiving for this contest. Thank you, Zazzle!
