To quote the wise words of Lindsay Lohan in the epic chick flick Mean Girls, we love math, “because it’s the same in every country.” Math nerds around the world are making calculated plans in anticipation of Pi Day, the annual celebration that’s observed every March 14. But tomorrow’s celebration will be a little different. A little more—dare we say—epic.
Just in case you need a refresher, Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The first 10 digits are 3.141592653. Still with us? It’s all coming back to you, right? Here’s an illustration for you visual learners.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, at some point tomorrow—not once, but twice—the precise date and time will be 3/14/15 9:26.53. We know, we know. Try to contain yourself. But believe it or not, for most people this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, which makes this Pi Day kind of a big deal. You see, this beautiful coincidence only happens once a century. That’s why they’ve dubbed March 15, 2015 (wait for it) Epic Pi Day.
If math isn’t your thing, at the very least it’s a good excuse to have pizza for dinner and your favorite pie for dessert. You’re welcome.
Here are a few things to help make Epic Pi Day a little more epic.
Your family and friends will be super impressed when they come over and see these smart, stylish kitchen towels.
Whether you’re serving up apple, blueberry or key lime pie, serve up a slice on this sweet paper plate.
Your favorite teacher will appreciate any of these commemorative Pi gifts.
Just remember to set your alarm twice, and tomorrow, at 9:26 53 a.m. and p.m., raise your glass to this most epic occasion. (We won’t judge if both glasses happen to be beer mugs. It’s Pi o’clock somewhere.)
