Tell us about yourself!
I was born and raised in Southwest Michigan, and after living in Florida for a few years, I’m back in the mitten state for good.
Tell us about the space where you do your work. Do you have an official studio or have your carved out a nook in your home?
I work from home and have a dedicated office space. I’m very grateful that I can work from home, since that means I’m able to spend more time with my daughter – even though the trade off is being a little less productive than I was before having a baby!
What is your background in art/design? What got you started creating?
I am a completely self-taught designer. I’ve read tons of books and taken a few online classes, but I don’t have any formal design training. I’ve always had a crafty/DIY spirit, but it wasn’t until creating my own wedding invitations that I realized how much I enjoyed stationery design.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I look for inspiration everywhere! Lately, I find events in my life are really motivating my designing. For example, I was pregnant last Christmas and it inspired me to create a few “pregnancy announcement” Christmas cards that ended up being some of my best sellers that year.
When do you feel your most creative? Your least?
I usually feel my most creative when I’m too busy to do anything about it! Give me all the time in the world and I will come up with nothing. But the second I have client deadlines to meet and no time to spare, my mind is absolutely racing with ideas for other projects.
What are your favorite products to design on Zazzle?
Lately I’ve had fun designing the wrap around address labels. I used some for my personal Christmas cards this year, and I really love how the label added a little extra holiday cheer to my envelopes.
If you could wish for one new product on Zazzle, what would it be and why?
I would love it if Zazzle offered foil stamp for stationery. Foil is probably my #1 customer request right now.
What was the very first Zazzle product that you sold?
I’m not 100% sure, but I think it was a stamp design. I would probably cringe if I saw it today, but you have to start somewhere.
Do you have any advice for new Zazzle Designers?
Be patient and stick with it. It takes awhile to see a return on all the time you invest in creating products.
