How to Design and Create a Gallery Wall

By • 1 week ago with 2 replies already

So, you’ve printed all of your favorite photos and inspirational pieces of art, but now you’ve got to figure out how to hang them. In an effort to prevent unnecessary holes in your walls, here are a few tips to help you create the perfect gallery wall.

Be sure to gather these supplies before you begin:

  • Frame Hangers
  • Nails
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Leveler
  • Hammer

Here’s how you do it:

1. First, map out your gridded arrangement. I did this by measuring all of my posters and canvases, then mocking them up digitally in a configuration that I liked. If doing it digitally isn’t for you, feel free to place the pieces on the floor to see what arrangement you like best or draw the design on a piece of paper.

2. Next, place a print or canvas on the wall and determine where you want it to live. With a pencil, lightly mark the top corners. Then measure and mark the middle point between the corners using a ruler. Then flip your piece over and assess the framing hardware on the back. Not all frames and canvases have the same hanging device, so to ensure all of the pieces are aligned, you’ll need to measure the distance between the hanging hardware and the top of the frame/canvas. Mark the distance below the middle mark on the wall. This is where you’ll place your nail. For instance, if the distance is 1”, measure and mark 1” below the middle mark you sketched earlier.

3. Secure the nail. I used a frame hanger to provide more support.

4. Hang! Use the leveler to make sure all of your pieces are straight. Repeat the previous steps until you’ve completed your gallery.

That’s all there is to it! We hope these tips help you create a masterpiece.
