Tell us about yourself!
Currently, I live in southern Spain with my husband and four fur babies. In about a year or so we’ll be moving back to Florida, and I’m so excited to return to the place I love. My hobby outside of designing and art is writing. I have a self-published book on Amazon called, “Nevia: The Age of Deception,” and it’s something I’m really proud of accomplishing. It took me several years to complete and finally publish. Right now, I’m working on my second novel in between my work and daily life. I hope to publish it
Tell us about the space where you do your work. Do you have an official studio or have you carved out a nook in your home?
My husband and I have carved out a little area in the corner of our living room to work. He’s a graphic designer and artist as well. We prefer to be out in the central area of our home instead of tucked away inside a small office somewhere. Our space is bright, clean, and totally conducive to our creative flow.
What is your background in art/design? What got you started creating?
I started when I was 16 in a dual enrollment program at a technology center. I was introduced to Photoshop there, and after high school, I continued with a few more classes in graphic design. It was years later when I met my husband that I started to learn a lot more and progress in my craft. He was savvy in Adobe programs and taught me most of what I know now, as far as the design aspects of my work. However, I’m pretty much self-taught in my watercolor and acrylic arts. I’ve always had a creative spark since I was very young. I would look up ways to do different styles and techniques, and just tried to emulate those things with my own twist. It’s been exciting and fun, and something I’m so happy to do for a living.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
At this point in my career, it’s so hard to pinpoint where exactly my inspiration comes from. It may seem a bit cliché, but it basically comes from everywhere. I look for color schemes in home decor shots and subject matter in trends and daily environment, and I really find a lot of inspiration from other creatives. I think it’s important to always add a piece of yourself in every work produced, whether your task is to cater to a particular design trend or if it’s just self-inspired. Always add, ‘you’ into the mixture!
When do you feel most creative? Your least?
I feel most creative in a clean, bright, and white environment. It’s like a clean slate for my mind to work. If it’s cluttered and dark, I find it very hard to concentrate and create. I also love sketching and painting outdoors. It’s such a great form of inspiration to see the colors, hear the sounds of my surroundings, and the fresh smell of the outdoors is so relaxing.
What are your favorite products to design on Zazzle?
I love to design all of the paper goods on Zazzle. Invitations are mainly my favorites. I find it such an honor to make something so important for a customer’s special day, whether that’s for a wedding, a sweet sixteen party, or a quinceañera event.
If you could wish for one new product on Zazzle, what would it be and why?
I think canvas storage bins would be a great addition to Zazzle’s home decor offerings. So many people love to keep their spaces tidy but in a stylish way. Who wants plastic bins or dull, flat colors when you can have vibrant and creative prints? I think they would be a great success.
What was the very first Zazzle product that you sold?
It was a black and pink painted marble Case-Mate phone case. It was very exciting and motivating to sell my first design!
What are your favorite product types to design on Zazzle?
I love all of the paper and home decor products. I love seeing my designs on huge pieces like tapestries or shower curtains.
What Are Your 5 Favorite Products in Your Store?
Do you have any advice for new Zazzle Designers?
Try new things; new styles, new mediums, new techniques. Don’t be afraid of the mess, the possible failures, or your self-doubt. Just try, and you’ll be surprised what comes out of it.
